The name “Penny Black” is derived from the world’s first ever self-adhesive postage stamp which was printed black in colour, sold for one penny, and first issued on the 6th May 1840. Akin to its sister pub in Singapore (Muddy Murphy’s), The Penny Black was painstakingly designed and built in England by master craftsmen and shipped piece by piece in 1999 to its current location at 26 & 27 Boat Quay. The Penny Black pub is a highly authentic representation of a traditional Victorian London pub created as a celebration of that first postage stamp from the UK’s Royal Mail. Located at the start of Boat Quay in Raffles Place, one of Singapore's most vibrant hub of riverfront dining and entertainment zones. In addition to the wide selection of premium wines and spirits, The Penny Black is the only English Public House in Singapore. The Penny Black serves 7 international beers on tap - Kilkenny, Guinness, Tiger, Heineken, Strongbow Cider, Old Speckled Hen and Erdinger Weissbier. The quayside ‘al fresco’ seating area provides the ideal setting overlooking the river with a refreshing breeze for you to enjoy hearty London pub meals & beers on tap. Alternatively, the ground floor has a sparse seating area that transports you back to an authentic Victorian London tavern. The Penny Black is truly a home away from home for our expat community and a great place for locals to escape the buzzing city and find comfort in a typical English pub. We're proud to be sponsors and the home bar of Bucks Rugby and Netball Club, Gaelic Dragons, Newcastle Supporters' Club Singapore and Playground Rivals Football Club.
